During this event, our Head of Cinema Products, Danny Jeremiah, took part in a panel on the future of Theatre Management Systems (TMS). Joining him were Mark Waldman, the Director of Marketing at POSitive, and Tony Adamson, the Senior VP of Strategic Planning at GDC Technology.
Over the course of their panel, they engaged in a range of discussions around how TMSs have evolved, how they might be impacted by new cloud technology, and the industry trends that continue to influence them.
Key themes that the panel considered from different perspectives included how software can continue to simplify operations and encourage flexibility in cinemas. Adamson noted that there is growing appetite in China for a TMS that provides staff with access to the environmental controls for the cinema, as well as their content. Waldman went further, saying that “the holy grail” for cinemas would be automating the entire supply chain from booking a film with a studio to putting it on screen.
Jeremiah picked up on that point, and added that it serves everyone’s interest across the industry to open their software up to integration, as those integrations will pave the way for an end-to-end solution like the one Waldman described. He predicted that in the next 5-10 years such a solution would revolutionise how cinemas make programming decisions, and the industry would “see more variety in what content gets programmed, what ads and trailers play, and how close to show time those ads change."
