UB40 PREMIERE SCREENING FOR CHARITY

BIRMINGHAM UGC BROAD STREET SCREENS ALTERNATIVE CONTENT DIGITAL CINEMA

LONDON, 1st May 2003 - UB40 are the first musical act to be screened using a digital projector in UGC Birmingham Broad Street cinema on 27 May. The event was to raise money for charity and was produced by igig.tv, using Arts Alliance to supply digital projector. The exclusive premiere of "Homegrown in Holland", UB40's DVD released this week, arose from UB40's wish to raise money for the family of Tushar Makwana, the Heart FM DJ who was tragically killed defending his home from burglars.

Exclusively screened to a packed audience of 250 VIPs, band members and fans who had paid £50 per ticket, with proceeds being donated to charity. igig.tv pitched the original concept of screening music concerts in digital cinema to Warner Vision in 2002, and had previously worked with them on the Led Zeppelin screening across 9 cinemas including UCI, Odeon and City Screen.

igig.tv set up and co-ordinated all technical requirements for the presentation, the latter with industry digital audio leader Arts Alliance. The 60 minute concert was encoded onto an Mpeg 4 server, and screened using a 2K projector.
