Warner Bros in UK DTO deal

Warner Bros movies like Superman Returns will be downloadable to UK and Irish consumers under a revised deal between the US studio's UK arm and Arts Alliance Media.

Warner Bros Entertainment UK and Arts Alliance unveiled their expanded electronic sell-through deal today, the latest in a string of content partnerships for the latter.

Covering Warner Bros movies and TV series, the pact includes new and back catalogue feature films and TV titles and kicked off with the launch of Superman Returns this week.

Other titles covered by the download-to-own (DTO) deal include Batman Begins, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket. TV series will be announced shortly.

All product covered by the pact will go through Arts Alliance-powered DVD rental site LoveFilm and WB sister company AOL, as well as Arts Alliance's own video-on-demand network Vizumi.

"Consumers are increasingly looking for more convenient ways to watch movies when and where they want, and this agreement means that we can offer them even more great content on demand," said Mark Livingstone, president of Arts Alliance.

The agreement builds on the existing video-on-demand deal between Arts Alliance and Warner Bros by increasing the amount of WB feature films available for download and, for the first time, making WB features available for download in the Republic of Ireland.

Arts Alliance has similar content deals in place with Sony Pictures, Icon Film, Discovery Networks Europe, Universal, Playboy TV and FremantleMedia, with which its is jointly developing a broadband comedy service, Clever Trousers.
