AAM signs first digital screen deal with French cinema chain

Arts Alliance Media (AAM) has signed an exclusive agreement with one of France’s largest cinema chains, Circuit George Raymond (CGR Cinémas) for the rollout of digital cinema across the chains entire 400 screens.

The agreement will see the deployment of digital screens from the first quarter of 2008 with the aim of 200 screens in its first year.

CGR Cinémas becomes the first European cinema chain to join the AAM initiative across Europe which will allow exhibitors and distributors to take advantage of the benefits of digital cinema in reducing print production and logistics costs, as well as providing high quality non-degradable prints and new opportunities for content and programming.

Under the deal, AAM will develop a fully integrated DCI-compliant digital cinema network within the company’s infrastructure with AAM procuring, servicing and maintaining all the digital cinema systems.

“We are delighted to be the first movers in the digital transition and to enter into a new era of French and European cinema,” said Jocelyn Bouyssy, ceo CGR Cinémas. “CGR Cinémas is a forward thinking company and its ability to seize new opportunities makes it one of the most successful chains in the French exhibition market.

"Starting as soon as this Christmas, we will equip seven screens in different multiplexes across the chain, so our customers can immediately enjoy films in 3D, which I believe will play a major role in the future of cinema exhibition.”
